We grow up thinking we need to hide our “flaws” to fake perfection. We use fashion as an armor in this pretending game. I have no waist whatsoever, and coming from a country ruled by beauty queens it’s socially expected that you meet the standars, so people around me made sure to remind me this all the time, pretty much since I was a child. Yes, I felt insecure, but I really never understood why the size of my waist or any other part of my body (because apparently this wasn’t my one trouble area, my whole size was…) was somebody else’s problem or even a problem.
There’s no way I can fake a waist wearing a crop top and that’s not going to stop me from wearing it, because my body doesn’t need to be more this or less that for me to enjoy fashion. Clothes are a tool for self-expression, so let’s stop hiding in them! More on the subject here.
